“Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It’s also key to a good relationship with oneself and others” (Michael,2016).
Self-care takes practice and consistency, this way you are able to maintain complete mental, physical and emotional peace.
Here are five different Self-Care Routines tips:
1. Drink some water first thing in the morning
According to researchers, drinking water first thing in the morning increases your metabolism because whenever we wake up, our bodies are slightly dehydrated and so drinking water is the healthy thing to do.
2. Exercise/Do some Yoga
“A little bit of adaptability goes a long way, especially when it comes to fitness”. (Karasik,2018). Fitness is a common factor when it comes to a healthy lifestyle and including it in your routines is self care.
3. Get Enough Sleep
“Sleep can have a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically. Not getting enough can even cause major health issues” (Davis,2018). Getting enough sleep keeps your body charged up and energized, and does not result in unnecessary fatigue.
4. Eat Healthy Food
“The food we eat has the potential to either keep us healthy or contribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert” (Davis,2018).
The temptation of eating junk/unhealthy food is suffered by almost everyone. The one problem we have as humans is that we care much about flavour and concerned about how good the food tastes. However, at times you need to focus on what you are consuming- what you are putting in your body- rather than taste because in the end you suffer from side effects due to an unhealthy diet. “Some of the most amazing self-care foods include fatty fish, blueberries, nuts, green leafy veggies, and brassicas, like broccoli” (Davis,2018).
5. Schedule your self time as a self care routine
This can include going to a spa, vacation, taking care of your skin, trying something new that excites you and much more. Having time for yourself allows you to explore more about yourself. “Moments alone can help you to ponder the best ways to move forward in your life and keep you grounded” (Davis, 2018).
A self care routine changes the way you see yourself, boosts your confidence and enlightens you about your surroundings. Always remember to keep it consistent when you decide to establish a daily, weekly or monthly self care routine.
