Does Religion Restrict Us From Freedom?

Many of us come from a religious background and this has somehow built us to be principled, have morals and ethics, and those who are not so much into religious beliefs will realise that some of the things you portray are led and guided by religious customs. This can be from Christianity, Islam, Hindu and many more.

Now the question is, does religion restrict us from freedom? As young people we believe that we need to explore, experience and try new things. The famous saying that we use most of the time is YOLO meaning You Only Live Once and so we get to a point whereby we feel as if because the Christian, Islam, Hindu and any other religion doctrines requires us to behave in a certain manner and feel as if we are restricted from the freedom of choice.

I personally believe that we as young people need to allow ourselves to discover ourselves first. Self discovery refers to a process of acquiring insight into one’s character, thus, learning more about yourself, likes, dislikes, your principles, boundaries and so forth. When you finally know and accept who you are that way you are able to answer the question to today’s topic because failure to understand yourself is failure to understand the world as it is.

Once you discover who you are you are able to decide whether you want to explore, experience and try new things, take note of that. Religion plays a huge role one every one of us who were groomed into it and that is why at times we feel like we are in a cocoon of our own. I want to emphasise about this freedom situation from a Christian perspective, and being a Christian myself I realised that God does not force people from making choices. The bible itself states everything that Christians need to know, but we are not forced into anything.

Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers and sisters , were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh, rather serve one another humbly in love”. The Christianity doctrine gives us freedom but we are expected to make the right choice by avoiding sin, however, on the other hand we do have a choice, you get it? If you guys have a different opinion from what i am talking about feel free to mention it in the comment section as well as sending an email to our email address.

I only mentioned the freedom part in relation to the Christian doctrine because I am a Christian. To those of you who belong to other religions, feel free to mention how freedom is related to your religion’s doctrine. The topic is quite broad and quite interesting because i remember watching Anne McClain’s video about her walk with God and she mentioned that she knows of people who said they didn’t or do not want to believe in God or anything related to God for that matter because they will feel like they are restricted to be free and make their own choices because at the end of the day they do not want to feel guilty as well as having to explain themselves to God or a Priest.

So these are some of the reasons why many young people prefer to be themselves without associating themselves with religion. On that note, I feel like it is quite respectful because it means one does not want to tarnish the name of God or church...unless I am incorrect, but that seems to be the reason. If you guys have any suggestions about this topic, please do comment or send an email, i will drop the email in the description.

These are some of the young related topics I feel we need to talk about because there is so much commotion within society these days especially on social media and we tend to feel like we do not know who we are anymore. Please check out our website & Blogs.
