The things that you do to make your appearance clean and neat, for example, washing your hair and brushing your teeth refer to personal grooming. In this blog I talk about eight essential tips that are related to personal grooming.

Personal grooming is a skill, that is, we learn how to take care of ourselves hygienically. It is essential to enhance personal appearance as it is a contributing factor to boosting one’s self-esteem (Kukreja,2020).


Here are 8 personal Grooming tips:

1. Healthy and Glowing Skin:

Levels of confidence rise whenever we have an amazing glowing skin, especially a skin without blemishes. Eating healthy and drinking lots of water are the key aspects of maintaining a healthy glowing skin. This also includes adequate rest and constant exercises (Kukreja, 2020).


2. Smell Nice:

Bad odor is a turn off for everyone and for yourself, therefore, a good cologne/perfume is a must at any time. For women it is advisable to apply a mild scented perfume, however, this depends on the person’s preferences.


3. Keep your nails Short & Clean:

For many women, this is a little difficult because of the long nails trend and fancy manicure. However, long nails are said to be one of the things that generate bacteria and germs. ‘In a study released at the Infectious Disease Society of America meeting in San Francisco, researchers found that artificial and natural nails longer than 3 millimeters beyond the tip of the finger, or the length of a pencil tip, carry more harmful bacteria and yeast under them than short nails’ (Puleo, 2006). Always keep your nails trimmed.



4. Basic Etiquettes (Good Manners):

Friendly gestures such as smiles, words like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ go hand in hand with personal grooming. How you move around and should talk more about your etiquette’ (Kukreja, 2020).


5. Make sure your breath smells nice:

Daily brushing of teeth is a crucial element of personal grooming. It is something you need to do every morning after waking up. Just like body smell a bad breath is a turn off. At times brushing once a day might not be very useful for other and so making use of mouth washes/freshers does the magic to keep your breather smelling good.


6. Washing your Hair constantly:

The washing of hair needs constant maintenance because of dandruff and all the dirt that will be stuck inside it. At least 3 times a month of hair wash, treatment and conditioning it will keep it clean and healthy.


7. Clean clothes:

Always ensure that your clothing is kept clean. Do not wash your clothes after 2 months. Once a week or once in two weeks is acceptable.


8. Dress Better:

There is nothing that annoys people such as someone who has no sense of dressing, even if you constantly bath and take care of your skin. You do not have to dress up like Kim Kardashian, however, a neat and steady form of dressing is personal hygiene.


The bottom line is, we all need to look our best because everyone desires to, and it becomes more essential when you are working around people. However, besides the physical grooming. The way you talk, walk, and interact with others says so much about your personal grooming, hence it is important to keep it standardised.
